Remi Tinubu Donates 10,000 Sanitary Pads to Schoolgirls in Kogi
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has donated 10,000 sanitary pads to schoolgirls in Kogi State, in a move aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene and supporting girls’ education.
The donation, carried out under her social intervention initiatives, was presented during an outreach programme focused on improving the wellbeing of adolescent girls. The First Lady emphasized the importance of access to sanitary products, noting that many young girls miss school during their menstrual cycle due to lack of basic hygiene materials.
Speaking at the event, Tinubu highlighted that menstrual health should not be a barrier to education. She urged communities, stakeholders, and government bodies to prioritize the needs of young girls, particularly in underserved areas, to ensure they remain in school consistently.
The initiative also included sensitization sessions on menstrual hygiene, where health professionals educated the students on proper usage and disposal of sanitary products, as well as general reproductive health awareness.
Officials in Kogi State commended the First Lady’s intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. According to local education authorities, the donation is expected to reduce absenteeism among schoolgirls and improve their academic performance.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, stating that access to sanitary pads would boost their confidence and help them stay focused on their studies without interruption.
The donation is part of a broader effort by the First Lady to address social challenges affecting women and girls across Nigeria, particularly in the areas of health, education, and empowerment.
