ASUU to Scrutinise TETFund Allocations to Public Universities
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced plans to closely examine how funds allocated to public universities through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) are being managed and utilised.
The union said the move is aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and proper use of the financial interventions provided to universities across the country. According to ASUU, concerns have been raised about how some institutions handle the funds meant for infrastructural development, research, and academic improvement.
ASUU noted that TETFund has played a significant role in supporting public universities by providing resources for projects such as lecture halls, laboratories, libraries, and staff development programmes. However, the union stressed that it is necessary to verify that the funds are used strictly for their intended purposes.
The union further explained that the planned scrutiny will help strengthen confidence in the intervention scheme and ensure that the investments made in the nation’s higher education sector yield meaningful results.
ASUU reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s university system and ensuring that resources meant for academic development are properly managed for the benefit of students, staff, and the education sector at large.
