Bandits Burn Police Station in Niger
Bandits have launched a violent attack on Agwara town, the headquarters of Agwara Local Government Area in Niger State, setting ablaze the Divisional Police Station, raiding a church, and abducting at least five residents.
According to reports from the community, the attackers stormed the area in large numbers, causing panic among residents as they unleashed terror late into the night. The Divisional Police Station was reportedly overrun before being set on fire, leaving the facility badly damaged and raising concerns about the security situation in the area.
In the same operation, the assailants allegedly invaded a church within the community, disrupting activities and further spreading fear among worshippers. During the raid, at least five individuals were kidnapped and taken away to an unknown location.
Residents described the attack as coordinated and devastating, noting that the community was left helpless as security forces were unable to repel the bandits in time.
The incident adds to the growing insecurity across parts of Niger State, where banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on public institutions have continued to threaten lives and livelihoods.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but security agencies are expected to launch an investigation and intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims and restore calm to the area.
The latest assault has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger security measures to protect rural communities from recurring bandit attacks.
