Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Dies After Sudden Collapse in Office

Bayelsa State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who reportedly collapsed in his office on Tuesday. According to Sahara Reporters, the 58-year-old top government official was rushed to a nearby medical facility, where family sources confirmed he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Details surrounding the circumstances of his collapse remain unclear, but sources within Government House described the incident as “shocking” and “unexpected,” noting that he had attended official engagements earlier in the day without any visible signs of distress.

Ewhrudjakpo, a former lawmaker who represented Bayelsa West Senatorial District before becoming deputy governor in 2019, was widely regarded as a loyal public servant known for his calm demeanor and commitment to development issues in the state. His death marks a significant loss for the administration of Governor Douye Diri, whose second term has now been overshadowed by the tragedy.

Government officials are expected to release a formal statement, while security has been tightened around Yenagoa as political associates, supporters, and civil servants gather to confirm the heartbreaking news.

The late deputy governor leaves behind a family, friends, and countless supporters who are now grappling with the painful reality of his abrupt passing. Further details are anticipated as investigations continue and the state prepares for official mourning protocols.
