Court Grants Bail to Malami, Wife, Son
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has again granted bail to former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, his wife Asabe Bashir, and their son Abdulaziz Malami in the sum of ₦200 million each.
The court made the ruling during proceedings on the case involving the three defendants, who are currently facing legal charges before the court. According to the ruling, each of the defendants must meet the bail conditions set by the court before they can enjoy their temporary release.
As part of the conditions, the court ordered that the defendants provide reliable sureties who must meet specific requirements determined by the court. The sureties are also expected to present valid identification and proof of financial capability.
The judge stated that the decision to grant bail again was based on the legal principle that suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The court also noted that granting bail would allow the defendants adequate opportunity to prepare their defense while the trial continues.
Legal representatives of the defendants welcomed the ruling, describing it as a step in ensuring fairness in the judicial process. They assured the court that their clients would comply fully with all the bail conditions and appear for subsequent hearings.
Meanwhile, the prosecution maintained that it would continue to pursue the case in accordance with the law and present evidence before the court during the trial.
The case has attracted significant public attention due to the prominence of Abubakar Malami, who previously served as Nigeria’s Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice during the administration of Muhammadu Buhari.
The matter has been adjourned to a later date for continuation of trial.
