Ebonyi Man Treks to Abakaliki to Appreciate Governor for Development Projects

In a heartwarming show of loyalty and gratitude, a young man from Ebonyi State has completed a long-distance trek to the state capital, Abakaliki, to personally appreciate the governor for his developmental strides across the state.

The man, identified as Chinedu Nworie, reportedly walked for several hours from his hometown in Onitsha Local Government Area to the Government House in Abakaliki. According to eyewitnesses, he carried a placard with inscriptions praising the governor for “transforming Ebonyi” and “delivering good governance.”

Why He Trekked

Chinedu told reporters that his gesture was inspired by the governor’s massive infrastructure projects, youth empowerment initiatives, and improvement of security across the state.

“I trekked all the way to Abakaliki because I wanted to thank His Excellency personally. The roads in my community are now motorable, and we have seen electricity restored. This has never happened before,” Chinedu said.

He added that his action was not sponsored by any political group, insisting it was his personal way of encouraging the governor to continue his work.

Government’s Reaction

Officials at the Government House received Chinedu warmly and praised his action as a sign that citizens are noticing the government’s efforts.

A senior aide to the governor said:

“This is the kind of positive civic engagement we like to see. The governor is committed to doing even more for Ebonyi people, and gestures like this inspire him to continue.”

This event underscores a growing trend in Nigeria where ordinary citizens express gratitude in unique ways when they see tangible results from political leaders. While trekking as a form of appreciation has sparked mixed reactions on social media, it shows that voters are ready to reward good governance.

However, critics argue that citizens should balance praise with constructive criticism to hold leaders accountable. The true measure of governance is not only celebration of projects but also consistent delivery of basic services.
