Jigawa Govt Gets FAAN Approval to Install Cargo Facilities at Dutse Airport
The Jigawa State Government has received approval from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to commence the installation of cargo handling facilities at the Dutse International Airport, marking a significant step toward boosting trade and economic activities in the state.
The approval is expected to transform the airport into a key logistics hub for agricultural produce and other goods, enabling farmers, exporters, and businesses in Jigawa and neighboring states to transport products more efficiently to local and international markets.
State officials described the development as a strategic move to unlock the state’s economic potential, attract investors, and create new jobs in the aviation, agriculture, and logistics sectors. The cargo facilities will include storage, handling, and processing infrastructure designed to meet international standards.
With the new cargo terminal, Dutse International Airport is projected to enhance Jigawa’s role in Nigeria’s export value chain, especially in commodities such as sesame, hibiscus, and grains, which the state produces in large quantities.
The project aligns with the state government’s broader plan to diversify its economy and strengthen infrastructure to support commerce and industrial growth.
