Ex-Kogi Governorship Candidate Dino Melaye Has Resigned from PDP. Details belows

The former Senator and Kogi State governorship candidate in 2023, Senator Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s inability to deliver Nigeria from what he described as “prevailing political cankerworms.”

In a resignation letter dated July 30 2025, which was addressed to the Chairman of the party in his home town in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ward 1 Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Melaye announced his immediate withdrawal from the party and all its activities.
“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,”
Melaye wrote.
He added that, after deep reflection on the current state of the party, he could no longer, “in good conscience,” participate in its affairs or support its agenda.

Melaye is an ally of former vice president Atiku Abubakar who also resigned from the PDP earlier in this month.
Melaye and Atiku have not yet announced their next political move; however, they are expected to join the coalition suspectedly to be African Democratic Congress (ADC).
