LASTMA Bans Indiscriminate Parking, Road Obstruction Ahead of 2025–2026 Cross-Over Night

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced a comprehensive ban on all forms of indiscriminate parking and road obstruction across the state, as Lagos braces for a massive movement of commuters during the 2025–2026 Cross-Over Night celebrations.

In a statement released on Monday, the agency said the directive is aimed at ensuring free traffic flow, public safety, and smooth vehicular movement before, during, and after the annual cross-over night activities, which traditionally attract large crowds to churches, event centers, and major worship venues across the metropolis.

LASTMA warned that indiscriminate parking on highways, access roads, bridges, and pedestrian walkways will no longer be tolerated, stressing that offenders will face immediate enforcement actions including fines, towing of vehicles, and possible prosecution in line with Lagos State traffic laws.

The authority disclosed that special traffic enforcement teams will be deployed to strategic locations across the state, particularly around major religious centers, business districts, and known traffic hotspots. These teams will work round-the-clock in collaboration with other security and emergency agencies to prevent gridlock and respond swiftly to incidents.

According to LASTMA, while discussing with kpomkwem news the ban also extends to commercial drivers and event organizers who often block roads while loading, offloading, or setting up activities, a practice the agency described as a major contributor to traffic congestion during festive periods.

The agency urged motorists to make use of designated parking areas and comply strictly with traffic regulations, advising residents to plan their movements ahead of time and consider alternative routes where necessary.

LASTMA reassured Lagosians of its commitment to maintaining order and safety on the roads throughout the cross-over celebrations, calling on the public to cooperate with traffic officials to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free transition into the New Year.
