President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the re-appointment of retired Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa as Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for another five-year term, extending his tenure until 2031.

Marwa, a native of Adamawa State, first assumed the role in January 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. He previously chaired the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse from 2018 to 2020.

During his military career, he held several key positions including military governor of Lagos and Borno States, and academic registrar at the Nigerian Defence Academy. He also holds postgraduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and Harvard University.

In the announcement, President Tinubu described Marwa’s re-appointment as “a vote of confidence in your onerous efforts to rid our country of the menace of drug trafficking and drug abuse. I urge you not to relent in tracking the merchants of hard drugs… especially the young ones.”

With this term extension, Marwa will lead the NDLEA into the next half-decade of Nigeria’s anti-drug efforts, carrying forward the agency’s mandate to combat illicit drug trafficking and abuse.
