Residents Scoop Fuel As Petrol Tanker Overturns On Tincan Bridge
Residents and commuters were thrown into panic on Monday after a petrol tanker overturned on the Tincan Island Bridge in Lagos, spilling fuel across the roadway.
Eyewitnesses said the tanker lost control while navigating the bridge and fell on its side, causing petrol to gush onto the road. Shortly after the incident, some residents were seen scooping the spilled fuel into containers despite the obvious danger.
The accident led to heavy traffic congestion on the bridge as vehicles were forced to slow down or turn back. Security agencies and emergency responders later arrived at the scene to cordon off the area and prevent a possible fire outbreak.
Authorities have repeatedly warned against scooping fuel from fallen tankers, stressing that it poses serious risks to lives and property. Motorists were advised to avoid the route while efforts were ongoing to clear the tanker and restore normal traffic flow.
No official confirmation has been given on casualties as of the time of filing this report.
