The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old dismissed police officer, Haruna Haggai, for allegedly impersonating security personnel, snatching motorcycles, and extorting residents in Minna, the Niger State capital.
According to the police, Haggai, who was previously dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force, was apprehended following multiple complaints from residents who accused him of posing as an active security operative to intimidate and defraud them. The command disclosed that the suspect operated mainly within parts of Minna, where he allegedly stopped motorcyclists under the guise of security checks, seized their motorcycles, and demanded money before releasing them. His activities reportedly caused fear and anxiety among residents.
Police authorities stated that the arrest followed intelligence-led investigations, which led to his eventual capture. Items believed to have been used in carrying out the alleged crimes were recovered during the operation.
The Niger State Police Command assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
