A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is responsible for the internal challenges facing the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking during a political gathering, the APC stalwart said it was “misleading and politically convenient” for members of the ADC to blame Tinubu for what he described as “self-inflicted problems” within the opposition party. He argued that the ADC’s struggles stem from poor leadership, lack of cohesion, and internal disputes rather than external interference.
The remarks come amid growing tensions within the ADC, with some members reportedly accusing the ruling APC of influencing divisions and weakening opposition parties ahead of future elections. However, the APC chieftain rejected the allegations, insisting that the ruling party remains focused on governance and delivering on its mandate to Nigerians.
He further urged opposition parties to prioritize internal reforms instead of shifting blame, noting that a strong and credible opposition is essential for Nigeria’s democracy. According to him, political maturity requires accountability and strategic organization rather than constant accusations.
While the ADC has yet to formally respond to the comments, political observers say the exchange highlights the deepening rivalry between Nigeria’s ruling party and opposition groups as the country gradually looks ahead to the next electoral cycle.
The development underscores ongoing debates about political responsibility, party stability, and the evolving dynamics of Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
