Anthony Joshua’s Boxing Future in Doubt After Tragic Crash

Retirement Speculation Intensifies

Reports have emerged suggesting that British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua may be retiring from the sport, following a tragic car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close associates.

The 36-year-old former two-time unified heavyweight world champion was involved in a serious vehicle collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in late December, an accident that claimed the lives of his long-time strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele. Joshua walked away with only minor injuries and was discharged from hospital to continue recovery.

In the days following the tragedy, family sources including Joshua’s uncle Adedamola Joshua said he has privately told relatives that he is “retired” from boxing. According to his uncle, the emotional toll of the crash and years of anxiety over his fights have pushed Joshua toward stepping away from the ring.

However, despite these claims, there has been no formal confirmation from Joshua himself or his camp that he has officially retired from professional boxing at this stage. Several outlets report that he currently has no confirmed plans to end his career, and speculation continues over whether the comments reflect a private sentiment rather than an official decision.

The boxing world remains divided, with social media abuzz with retirement rumors and fact-checking organizations noting that claims of an official retirement announcement are unverified and currently unconfirmed.

As of now, Anthony Joshua’s career status remains uncertain caught between emotional reflection after personal loss and the sport’s demands that have defined him since he turned professional in 2013. Further updates are expected as Joshua or his promoters clarify his future plans in boxing.
