Bandits Attack ECWA Church in Kogi, Abduct Worshippers
Suspected bandits have attacked an Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) congregation in Kogi State, abducting several members during the incident.
The attack reportedly occurred while worshippers were gathered at the church, throwing the community into panic as the assailants stormed the premises and forcefully took some members away to an unknown location. Residents said the attackers arrived heavily armed, firing sporadically to scare people before carrying out the abduction.
Security agencies have since been alerted, and efforts are said to be underway to track the perpetrators and rescue the kidnapped victims. Local sources disclosed that the attack has heightened fear among residents, especially as places of worship were previously considered relatively safe within the area.
Church leaders and community members have condemned the attack, describing it as a disturbing escalation of insecurity and an assault on religious freedom. They called on the government and security agencies to intensify patrols and take decisive action to protect lives and property.
The Kogi State Government has also been urged to strengthen security across vulnerable communities, as residents fear further attacks if urgent measures are not taken.
The incident adds to growing concerns over banditry and kidnapping in parts of the country, with faith-based institutions increasingly becoming targets.
