Nigeria Wins 5th Straight Women’s AfroBasket Championship Title

Nigeria beats Mali to win the final game

Nigeria’s D’Tigress have defeated their Malian opponent to retain their trophy in the final games of the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket Championship, held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

The encounter started with the Nigeria setting the tempo, but Mali fought back to edge the first quarter 26–21.  D’Tigress responded strongly in the second quarter, leveling the score at 41–41 by halftime.

The defending champions, Nigerian team, came fully aggressive and determined in the third quarter, and taking control of the game before sealing an impressive winning of i78–64  after a fiercely contested final quarter.

Nigeria’s Amy Okoronkwo was named MVP of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.

She has now won back-to-back Women’s AfroBasket MVP honours.
