In a thrilling showdown in Rabat, Morocco, the Super Eagles of Nigeria delivered a commanding performance to defeat Gabon 4–1 after extra time, booking their place in the next stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers.

The match, which ended 1–1 in regulation time, saw Nigeria rally with a dominant extra-time display showcasing their grit, precision, and renewed team spirit after recent internal setbacks.

Nigeria struck first in the 77th minute through Adams, the Sevilla man, silencing the Gabon fans temporarily. But Gabon equalized before Full time through Lemina from Galatasaray

Extra time belonged entirely to the Super Eagles. Ojuku restored Nigeria’s lead with a curling effort, before Osimhen scored a brace.

With the victory, Nigeria advance to the final playoff round, where they will face either Cameroon or Congo and after that one of the other regional group winners for a spot in the FIFA Confederation playoffs  a decisive step toward securing a ticket to the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The win sends the Super Eagles into Sunday’s playoff final, where they will face either Cameroon or DR Congo. The winner will earn a spot in the intercontinental playoff in March 2026, a decisive step toward qualifying for the World Cup
