
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter, has congratulated Kwara United Football Club on their historic triumph over Abakaliki FC in the 2025 President Federation Cup Final, a victory that also secured the club a place in the prestigious CAF Confederation Cup.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Ayodeji Ismail, and Assistant Secretary, Sodiq Adebara, the association described the victory as a “watershed moment in Kwara’s football history,” lauding the team’s resilience, determination, and tactical discipline in ending a 49-year wait for a major national trophy.
“This achievement goes beyond winning a trophy—it reaffirms Kwara’s place in Nigerian football and opens a long-awaited door to continental football. The qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup is a reward for years of dedication, sacrifice, and steady progress,”
the statement read.
SWAN Kwara applauded the technical crew, players, and management of Kwara United for their unity of purpose and commended Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq for his consistent and unwavering support for sports development in the state.

The association also acknowledged the presence of top dignitaries at the final—Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, and National Sports Commission Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko—highlighting the prestige and national significance of the occasion.

In addition, SWAN Kwara expressed profound gratitude to AVM Lanre Oluwatoyin, Chief of the Defence Space Administration, and Engr. Nurudeen Adeyemi, a member of the TETFUND Board, for their invaluable support. Their contributions, the association noted, ensured seamless and comprehensive coverage of the event by sports journalists.
“This is a win for the entire Kwara sporting family. As Kwara United prepares to fly the state and nation’s flag on the continental stage, we pledge our continued support to the team and look forward to celebrating even greater milestones,” the statement concluded.
The thrilling final, held at the iconic Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, ended goalless in regulation time. Kwara United held their nerve in the penalty shootout to clinch a 4–3 victory. SWAN Kwara praised the heroics of goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso, the composure of the penalty takers, and the astute leadership of Head Coach Tunde Sanni.
