Supporters of Peter Obi, popularly known as “Obidients,” have rejected recent claims made by Justice Alfa Belgore Salami, describing them as misleading and politically motivated.

Justice Salami, a former president of the Court of Appeal, had made remarks suggesting that Obi’s political influence may be waning and that internal divisions could weaken his movement ahead of future elections. However, Obi’s supporters swiftly pushed back, insisting that the former Anambra State governor remains focused and undistracted.

In a series of statements shared across social media platforms and political forums, Obidients argued that the claims do not reflect the current strength and unity of the movement. They emphasized that Obi’s message of accountability, transparency, and good governance continues to resonate strongly, particularly among Nigerian youths.

“The movement is bigger than distractions,” one supporter noted, adding that attempts to undermine Obi’s credibility would not succeed. Many also pointed out that Obi has consistently avoided engaging in unnecessary political controversies, choosing instead to focus on national issues such as economic recovery, security, and poverty alleviation.

Political analysts say the exchange highlights the growing tension within Nigeria’s opposition space as stakeholders begin to position themselves ahead of the next election cycle. While some believe such criticisms are part of healthy democratic discourse, others see them as efforts to shift public perception.

Despite the criticism, Obi has yet to respond directly to Justice Salami’s comments. Close allies, however, maintain that he remains committed to his vision for Nigeria and will not be sidetracked by what they describe as “unfounded claims.”

As political conversations intensify nationwide, observers note that Obi’s ability to maintain focus amid criticism could play a significant role in shaping his future political trajectory.
