Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday met with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at the governor’s private residence in Port Harcourt, as efforts to consolidate political reconciliation in the state continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The closed-door meeting, which began shortly after 4pm, lasted about four hours and brought together Wike, Fubara, APC governorship candidate Kingsley Chinda, former Senator Magnus Abe, and supporters from the different political camps.
No official statement was issued after the meeting, and neither Wike nor Fubara disclosed the specific issues discussed.
However, Punch quoted a source as saying the meeting was:
“strategic and part of the ongoing fence-mending by the minister ahead of the Rainbow Coalition’s campaign for the 2027 general elections.”
The source further said:
“It is also part of measures to cement the renewed peace in the state. You know the Senator Magnus Abe-led reconciliation committee has met with the governor twice.
“Now, maybe it’s time for the FCT minister to visit the governor to show that peace has truly returned.”
The meeting comes after a series of reconciliation engagements between Fubara and members of the Wike-led Rainbow Coalition. In August, Abe said of the reconciliation process:
“We are all in agreement, and we have made very good progress.”
Kpomkwem News understands that Tuesday’s meeting represents the latest publicly reported engagement between the two political camps, although the precise decisions reached behind closed doors remain undisclosed.
