Lagos Police Begin Disciplinary Action Against Inspector Over Viral Video
The Lagos State Police Command has commenced disciplinary proceedings against Inspector Osumah Frank following the circulation of a viral video in which the officer was heard making controversial remarks while travelling in a public vehicle.
The Command described the comments as “careless, inappropriate and uncultured” in a statement issued on Friday, September 25, 2026, and signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
In the video, Frank, who was wearing police uniform, made remarks concerning Igbo people and the political ambitions of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi. He also referred to President Bola Tinubu and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
The officer was further heard suggesting that police officers could collect money to frustrate the political prospects of a candidate.
Reacting to the video, the Lagos Command stressed that the remarks were made in Frank’s personal capacity and did not represent the position of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Command has commenced appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement said.
“It also wishes to make it clear that the statements made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and do not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force,” it added.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, said police personnel were expected to maintain professionalism and respect for members of the public.
“All personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times,” Fatai said.
He added that wearing the police uniform carried a responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force, stressing that the Command would not tolerate conduct capable of bringing the police into disrepute or undermining public confidence.
The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and “policing with humility and integrity.”
The video reportedly began circulating widely on social media around September 23, attracting criticism, particularly over the officer’s remarks concerning Igbo people and his suggestion that police officers could be paid to frustrate a political candidate.
The Command has not disclosed the specific disciplinary measures being considered against Inspector Frank.
