Uyo to Accra: Ibom Air Sets Date for First International Flight

Ibom Air has officially announced plans to launch its first international route, marking a major milestone in the airline’s expansion journey. The Akwa Ibom State-owned carrier revealed that it will commence flights from Uyo to Accra, opening a new regional connection between Nigeria and Ghana.

According to the airline’s management, the inaugural international flight is scheduled to take off in the coming weeks, following the completion of regulatory approvals and operational arrangements. This move signals Ibom Air’s transition from a domestic-focused airline into a competitive regional player within West Africa.

The new Uyo–Accra route is expected to boost travel, trade, and tourism between both countries. Passengers traveling for business, education, and leisure will benefit from more direct and convenient flight options, reducing the need for connecting routes through other major hubs.

Industry analysts view the development as a strategic step that aligns with the broader growth ambitions of Nigeria’s aviation sector. By entering the international market, Ibom Air joins other Nigerian carriers expanding their footprints beyond local routes, strengthening regional air connectivity.

The airline has also assured customers of maintaining its reputation for punctuality, safety, and quality service as it scales operations. Additional international destinations are expected to be announced as part of its long-term expansion plan.

With this launch, Ibom Air not only elevates its brand but also positions Akwa Ibom State as a growing aviation hub in the region.
