The United States has said a diplomatic agreement with Iran remains possible, even as President Donald Trump lowered expectations over the chances of a quick breakthrough in ongoing talks.

Speaking during a recent briefing, US officials maintained that negotiations aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear activities are still active, despite rising tensions and growing skepticism from both sides. Trump, however, warned that reaching a final agreement “may take longer than expected,” signaling a more cautious tone compared to earlier optimism.

The renewed discussions come amid concerns over Iran’s expanding nuclear programme and increasing instability in the Middle East. Washington has continued to push for stricter monitoring measures and guarantees that Iran will not move toward developing nuclear weapons. Iranian officials, on the other hand, insist their programme is for peaceful purposes and have demanded relief from economic sanctions.

Trump’s comments have tempered expectations of an immediate diplomatic victory, with analysts suggesting both nations remain deeply divided on key issues, including uranium enrichment levels and regional security concerns.

Despite the uncertainty, US diplomats say communication channels remain open and that both sides are still committed to avoiding further escalation. Observers believe a successful deal could ease tensions in the region and stabilize global energy markets, though major obstacles still remain before any agreement can be finalized.

The latest developments have drawn international attention, with European allies urging both Washington and Tehran to continue negotiations and avoid actions that could derail the fragile diplomatic process.
