The Nigerian movie industry has been thrown into mourning following reports of the death of popular Nollywood actor and model Alexx Ekubo at the age of 40.

News of the actor’s passing surfaced on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, after several colleagues and entertainment platforms shared emotional tributes online. Reports claim the actor had been battling a prolonged illness in recent months, although official details surrounding the cause of death remain limited as of press time.

Fellow actor Godwin Nnadiekwe was among the first celebrities to publicly react, expressing deep sorrow over the heartbreaking development. Tributes have since continued to pour in from fans, actors, filmmakers, and well-wishers across Nigeria and beyond.

Born Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke on April 10, 1986, the actor rose to fame after emerging first runner-up in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria pageant before becoming one of Nollywood’s most recognized faces. He starred in several successful movies including “Weekend Getaway,” “The Bling Lagosians,” “A Sunday Affair,” and “The Blood Covenant.”

Known for his charm, fashion sense, and versatility on screen, Alexx Ekubo built a strong fanbase throughout his career and was also involved in humanitarian and youth advocacy projects. In 2020, he was recognized among influential young Africans by the United Nations.
