Court Orders Tinubu to Be Served With Atiku’s 2027 Eligibility Suit..
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that President Bola Tinubu be served within seven days with a suit filed by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar challenging his eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Justice Inyang Ekwo granted permission for substituted service through the All Progressives Congress (APC) after Atiku’s lawyers said efforts to personally serve the President had not been successful. The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1888/2026, is scheduled for further hearing on September 28, 2026.
Atiku and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) allege that Tinubu submitted a forged NYSC discharge certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and are asking the court to disqualify Tinubu and the APC from the 2027 presidential election.
The plaintiffs specifically dispute a certificate bearing the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle,” alleging that it was presented as genuine despite the disputed name.
Tinubu and the APC have denied submitting any forged certificate to INEC and have asked the court to dismiss the suit. INEC has also challenged the competence of the case.
The plaintiffs have meanwhile sought amendments to parts of their case, including a correction relating to the INEC form cited in connection with the disputed certificate.
