Trump Stuns G7 Leaders with “I’m the Boss” Remark During Final Summit Session

The G7 summit of leading world powers in France is being hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, but on Wednesday, visiting US President Donald Trump made it clear who he believed was leading the proceedings.

“I’m the boss,” Trump declared as he walked into the morning session on the final day of the three-day summit, while the other leaders were already seated.

The remark drew laughter from those present, and Macron appeared to take it in stride. “How are you?” the French president asked.

“Good, thank you,” Trump replied. Before entering politics, Trump built a career as a business tycoon and gained worldwide recognition as host of the television show “The Apprentice,” famous for its catchphrase, “You’re fired!” He then took his seat among fellow leaders.

Fresh from securing an agreement aimed at ending the conflict with Iran and marking his 80th birthday, Trump has remained the dominant figure throughout the summit in the lakeside resort town of Evian on Lake Geneva.

French officials are likely pleased that the unpredictable US president remained for the duration of the event and endorsed the G7 communiqué, unlike the previous summit in Canada, which he left before its conclusion.

In a notable diplomatic gesture, Macron has invited Trump to a private dinner at the Palace of Versailles, just outside Paris, after the summit concludes on Wednesday afternoon.

Facing criticism from some quarters over perceptions that he is overly accommodating toward Trump, Macron has already stressed that the gathering at Versailles will not be a “gala” dinner.
