IPOB Restructures Leadership, Appoints Chris Nwaọgụ as New DOS Head
Why Did Nnamdi Kanu Dissolve IPOB's Directorate of State? Inside the Major Leadership Shake-Up

A statement attributed to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has announced the dissolution of the movement’s third Directorate of State (DOS) administration and the inauguration of a fourth administration led by U.S.-based Nigerian, Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ.
According to the statement, the restructuring takes immediate effect and is aimed at strengthening the organisation’s leadership structure, improving internal coordination, and repositioning the movement for greater efficiency.
In the statement, Kanu declared: “I hereby dissolve the 3rd Administration of the Directorate of State (DOS) and inaugurate the 4th Administration with immediate effect.”
He further stated that the new administration would “assume immediate responsibility for the administration, coordination, and day-to-day management of IPOB affairs.”
Chris Nwaọgụ was appointed Head of the Directorate of State, alongside several other officials assigned responsibilities across finance, welfare, media, coordination, diplomacy, and continental representation.
Explaining the reason for the restructuring, Kanu said leadership within the movement carries the responsibility of safeguarding members and advancing its objectives.
“Any administration entrusted with IPOB affairs must protect the movement, defend its integrity, and advance its strategic goals,” he stated.
The statement also criticised the outgoing administration, alleging shortcomings in internal cohesion, communication management, and the welfare of detained members.

According to Kanu, “The abandonment of detained members and internal distractions weakened the effectiveness of the movement at a critical time.”
As part of the reorganisation, an Elders Advisory Council was established to provide strategic guidance and institutional support to the new leadership structure.
Kanu described the changes as necessary for “organisational renewal, discipline, and restoration of unity within the movement” and directed IPOB structures worldwide to recognise and cooperate with the newly inaugurated administration.
The restructuring represents a significant leadership change within IPOB and is expected to attract reactions from supporters, observers, and stakeholders monitoring developments within the pro-Biafra movement.
