Davido’s Brief Reply to Peter Obi Sparks Reactions Ahead of Osun Election

Reactions have continued to trail a brief social media exchange between Nigerian music star Davido and former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate Peter Obi, after Obi called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a transparent and credible governorship election in Osun State.
Obi, in a message shared ahead of the August 15, 2026 election, urged INEC to uphold its constitutional responsibility by providing a level playing field for all candidates and protecting voters from intimidation, coercion and electoral manipulation.
His appeal, made less than 24 hours before the election, attracted attention online and prompted a brief response from Davido on his official X handle on Friday, August 14.
“Thank you so much Your Excellency,” Davido wrote.
The singer did not elaborate on the electoral issues raised by Obi or expressly state his political position in the post. However, the brief exchange generated discussion among social media users, with some interpreting Davido’s response as support for Obi’s call for a credible election, while others viewed it simply as an acknowledgment of the former governor.

The interaction has also renewed conversations about the role of entertainers and other public figures in political and electoral discourse.
