Kano State Begins Distribution of 100,000 Bags of Rice Donated by Dangote Foundation
The Kano State Government has commenced the distribution of 100,000 bags of rice donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to support vulnerable residents across the state.
The initiative is part of efforts aimed at easing the economic burden on low-income households amid the rising cost of food and living in Nigeria. The rice distribution exercise is expected to reach thousands of families across the 44 local government areas of the state.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony in Kano, government officials said the intervention reflects a collaborative effort between the state government and private organizations to provide relief to citizens facing economic hardship.
According to representatives of the state government, the rice will be distributed to the most vulnerable groups, including widows, elderly persons, persons living with disabilities, and other low-income households. Community leaders and local government authorities have also been engaged to ensure that the items reach the intended beneficiaries without diversion.
Officials noted that the donation from the foundation, established by Nigerian billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote, demonstrates the role of the private sector in supporting humanitarian and social welfare initiatives in the country.
The distribution process will be monitored by government agencies and community stakeholders to maintain transparency and fairness. Authorities also urged residents to remain orderly during the exercise and cooperate with officials coordinating the distribution in their respective communities.
The state government further commended the Dangote Foundation for its continued commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians through food assistance, health interventions, and educational programs.
The rice distribution comes at a time when many households are grappling with the impact of inflation and rising food prices across the country. Stakeholders say such interventions are crucial in providing temporary relief while broader economic measures are pursued to stabilize food supply and affordability.
Residents who benefit from the program are expected to receive the rice through designated distribution points across the state in the coming days as the government works to ensure the exercise is completed smoothly and efficiently.
