Monarch Seeks FG’s Help as Rain Wreaks Havoc in Benue Community
A traditional ruler in a community in Benue State has appealed to the Federal Government of Nigeria for urgent assistance after heavy rainfall caused widespread destruction in the area.
The monarch said the downpour, which lasted for several hours, destroyed several homes, displaced residents, and damaged farmlands that serve as the main source of livelihood for many families in the community. According to him, the flooding has left many residents stranded and in need of immediate humanitarian support.
He explained that roads linking the community to nearby towns have also been badly affected, making movement difficult and slowing down rescue and relief efforts. Community members have been forced to seek shelter with relatives and neighbours after their houses were either submerged or severely damaged by the rain.
The traditional ruler called on the Federal Government and relevant emergency agencies to intervene quickly to prevent further hardship for the affected residents. He also appealed for relief materials such as food, temporary shelter, and medical assistance.
Residents expressed concern that if urgent measures are not taken, the situation could worsen, especially as the rainy season continues. They urged authorities to provide drainage systems and other long-term solutions to reduce the impact of flooding in the community.
The monarch said the community remains hopeful that government intervention will come soon to help victims rebuild their homes and restore normal life.
