The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly ruled out any form of political alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring its intention to contest independently across all positions.
According to party leaders, the decision was made clear after a stakeholders’ meeting held in Umuahia, where concerns over alleged plans to adopt candidates from other parties were addressed. The state chairman, Amah Abraham, emphasized that the PDP would field its own candidates in all elections, dismissing speculation about possible coalitions.
The party’s stance comes amid growing discussions about opposition alliances in Abia State and across Nigeria as political groups strategize for 2027. While some voices within the broader opposition have suggested coalitions as a way to challenge incumbents, the Abia PDP insists it remains strong enough to stand alone.
This position also reflects ongoing political tensions in the state, where different camps are already positioning themselves for the next governorship race. Analysts say the refusal to join alliances could reshape opposition dynamics, especially as parties weigh whether unity or independence offers a better chance of victory.
With preparations for 2027 gradually intensifying, the Abia PDP’s decision signals a strategy focused on rebuilding internal strength and presenting its own candidates rather than relying on coalition politics.
