CAN Condemns Attack on Church Gathering in Ekiti

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly condemned the recent attack on a church gathering in Eda Oniyo Ekiti, describing the incident as a grave violation of human dignity and religious freedom.

In a statement released on Wednesday, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, expressed deep concern over the attack, calling it a “brutal assault on shared humanity and the sanctity of life.” He emphasized that places of worship should remain safe havens, not targets of violence.

The incident, which has sparked outrage among residents and religious communities, is believed to have disrupted a peaceful church gathering, though details surrounding casualties and the perpetrators remain unclear at the time of reporting.

CAN urged security agencies to act swiftly in investigating the attack and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice. The body also called on the government to strengthen protective measures around religious institutions to prevent future occurrences.

Residents in Ekiti State have expressed fear and concern following the incident, with community leaders appealing for calm while security operatives intensify efforts to maintain order.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and tolerance across religious lines, stressing that violence against any group undermines the nation’s collective stability.
