Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has died at the age of 90.
Tukur died on Saturday at his residence in Abuja after a prolonged illness, his family confirmed to TRT Afrika.
His burial is expected to hold on Saturday at the Lamido of Adamawa’s Palace in Yola, Adamawa State.
Tukur, a prominent businessman and politician, served as governor of the former Gongola State during Nigeria’s Second Republic before becoming Minister of Industries under the military administration of General Sani Abacha.
He also sought the Nigerian presidency and later served as National Chairman of the PDP, where he played a prominent role in the party’s leadership.
Tukur is survived by 17 children.
