OPay Explains How Nigerians Can Check Eligibility for FG’s N50,000 Relief Fund

OPay has explained how Nigerians can determine their eligibility for the Federal Government’s N50,000 monthly cash relief programme, warning citizens against fraudsters exploiting the initiative.

The fintech company said the assistance, introduced under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), is exclusively for beneficiaries who meet the government’s eligibility criteria.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, OPay disclosed that eligible customers would receive a pop-up notification on their app homepage, directing them to follow the instructions to access the payment.

It clarified that customers who do not see the notification are not currently eligible, adding that it has no authority over the government’s beneficiary selection process.

OPay stated, “The ₦50,000 monthly Federal Government cash support is available only to eligible citizens. Eligible customers will see a pop-up notification on their OPay app homepage. Kindly click on the pop-up to proceed with the next steps.”

The company directed customers seeking clarification to contact NERSI on 07000222222.

It also warned against fraudsters, stressing that neither OPay nor its representatives would request customers’ PINs or One-Time Passwords (OTPs).

“OPay will never ask for your PIN or OTP to process a NERSI relief payment. Do not pay any agent or click unverified links,” the company warned.

Customers can also check their eligibility through OPay’s official USSD code, 95520#.

The Federal Government announced the commencement of NERSI payments on October 30, 2026, with the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, explaining that the intervention targets vulnerable households affected by rising food prices and living costs.

Under the programme, qualified beneficiaries are expected to receive ₦50,000, with payments processed in phases through approved financial service providers.

Other participating platforms include: ALAT by Wema Bank (94523#),

MoMo PSB (6710#),

NairaGram (72600#) and

Moniepoint (557327#).

The government has also clarified that beneficiaries are selected through verified national identity records and the National Social Register. Consequently, Nigerians are not required to register afresh, pay processing fees or engage agents to secure the assistance.

Doro urged citizens to avoid suspicious links and protect sensitive banking details, including their PINs, BVNs and OTPs.

For further enquiries, Nigerians can contact the NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
