In the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, bandits have kidnapped more than 100 individuals in the communities of Mutumji, Sabongari Mahuta, Kwanar Dutsi, and Unguwar Kawo once more for not paying the levies that were placed on them.
A Dailypost story claims that the bandits have been terrorizing the villages since they are unable to pay the fines that have been placed on them.
Alhaji Muhammad Usman, a Mutumji villager, told the publication that the bandits broke into the settlement at around 8 p.m. and began firing intermittently, forcing the locals to flee for their lives.
The villager claimed that Damina, the area’s chieftain of bandits, had previously levied harvesting taxes on the villages totaling N110 million, giving them a fortnight to comply or else suffer the consequences.
He said, “A charge of N50 million was placed on our village, N30 million on Kwanar Dutsi, N20 million on Sabongari Mahuta, and N10 million on Unguwar Kawo.
Another local source claimed that when the terrorists attacked the village on Friday night, the residents had already begun to donate the funds.
As of the time this story was filed, the State’s Police command spokeswoman could not be reached.
The event occurred one week after several residents in the same Local Government Area’s Ruwandoruwa community were kidnapped.
It should be remembered that in Maru town, inside the same Local Government Area of the State, the bandits earlier this year killed a Divisional Police Officer along with several other police personnel.
