Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was brought before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Tuesday was Emefiele’s court appearance. Emefiele, wearing traditional clothing and a headgear, was escorted into the courtroom by an EFCC representative. He appeared in court on Wednesday afternoon in accordance with the November 2 directive.
In a ruling on an ex-parte plea by Emefiele, Justice Olukayode Adeniyi had on November 2 ordered the EFCC to either release him unconditionally or produce him on November 6 so the court could give him bail.
When the matter came up on November 6, Justice Adeniyi reiterated the ruling; however, the EFCC did not present him in court or release him. The judge is not yet in the courtroom, and the proceedings are not yet underway.
