Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, or COSEYL, is a youth-based Igbo interest group that has declared that if President Bola Tinubu frees Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, then it will declare President Tinubu its hero.
Nnamdi Kanu has been detained for more than two years since his arrest in Kenya in 2021 and his unusual extradition to Nigeria, even though there have been court orders requesting his release.
The organization said in a press release issued by Goodluck Ibem, its president-general:
“President Tinubu’s choice to join NADECO and battle against military junta and tyranny was influenced by his prior support for the rule of law and adherence to court rulings.
When the Supreme Court rules on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case on December 15, 2023, the entire South East geopolitical zone would be eager to welcome their son.
“The South East geopolitical zone’s leading sociopolitical youth group calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be a hero by freeing IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from DSS captivity.
“We shall honour President Tinubu for preserving the rule of law and heeding the court’s decision to free Nnamdi Kanu from the DSS’s detention.
“The complete and total release of Nnamdi Kanu will demonstrate that President Tinubu stands by the principles and ideals he battled for during the military era.”
