Due to the detrimental effects drug trafficking has on society, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has declared that victory in this battle is essential.
Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), the agency’s chairman and CEO, made this statement on Thursday in Asaba while leading a team to visit Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at Government House, Asaba.
He claimed that the hard drug epidemic in Nigeria had reached epidemic proportions, with over 15 million drug users between the ages of 15 and 64, citing data from the appropriate United Nations survey organization. He also demanded the state government’s assistance and collaboration in combating the problem.
Marwa linked the nation’s widespread rape, murder, banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and other vices to the consumption of strong drugs by those who committed them.
According to him, the prevalence of drug addiction in Delta State among people aged 15 to 64 was 18.
