President Bola Tinubu has been threatened by the Katsina Elders’ Forum to forfeit his chances of winning the general elections in 2027 if he moves important national infrastructure to Lagos State.
The forum also cautioned Tinubu against moving the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from Abuja to Lagos or any other area of the country’s southern region.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike was also charged by the conference with using all available means to enter Abuja with kidnappers in order to refine the federal government’s plan to relocate these projects.
Following a closed-door meeting, the forum’s secretary, Aliyu Mohammed, briefed reporters on the findings of the group on Wednesday night. He said that the relocation move was a deliberate attempt to severely impair Northern Nigeria’s socioeconomic activity.
Mohammed stated that the contractor for the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport’s renovated airport rescue and firefighting vehicle project wrote to Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, requesting its removal for tenuous grounds.
He claimed that people he referred to as Nigeria’s adversaries, who opposed the country’s unity, were misadvising President Tinubu on moving the FAAN, CBN offices, and the Katsina airport project to the southern region of the nation.
Therefore, we are warning Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reverse these unconstitutional decisions as long as he is interested in coming back in 2027, as long as he is interested in the votes of the Northerners,” Mohammed was reported as saying. Whoever is giving him advice on such matters is working against the interests of the nation.
Such a guy has no interest in the project in Nigeria. And the North has no problem telling Tinubu directly that, once he begins relocating all these important departments to Lagos, we are not prepared to re-elect him in 2027.
Mohammed further said, “The Israelis are being invited by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to come and secure Abuja.” Before now, we were unaware of any kidnapping incidents in Abuja.
