The Okuama hamlet in Delta State’s Ughelli South Local Government Area, where 12 troops and four senior commanders perished, has been completely demolished.
According to Channels Television, there are serious claims that some enraged soldiers may have committed the crime in retaliation for the deaths of their comrades.
While the hunt for the murderers continues, some soldiers under the command of Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding the Nigerian Army’s 6th Division, have made some arrests.
Fearing retaliation from the army who have been monitoring the streams, residents of the coastal village are reported to have fled to nearby Ughelli.
Under the command of Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the Nigerian Army’s General Officer Commanding 6 division, soldiers of the joint task force found the dead bodies of fourteen dead soldiers in the early hours of Saturday in Okuama community, within the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
