The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police, Ali Giwa, as the new Force New Media Officer of the Nigeria Police Force.

The appointment is part of the police leadership’s ongoing efforts to strengthen communication between the force and the public, particularly through digital platforms and emerging media channels. With the growing influence of social media and online information platforms, the Nigeria Police Force has increasingly prioritized strategic digital engagement to enhance transparency, public trust, and real-time dissemination of information.

As the Force New Media Officer, CSP Ali Giwa will be responsible for managing the police force’s digital communication strategy, including overseeing its official social media accounts, coordinating online public engagement, and ensuring timely updates on security developments across the country. His role will also involve countering misinformation, addressing public concerns online, and highlighting the activities and achievements of the Nigeria Police Force through verified digital channels.

According to police authorities, the appointment reflects the Inspector-General’s commitment to modernizing the force’s communication systems and adapting to the evolving media landscape. In recent years, digital platforms have become key tools for security agencies to communicate with citizens, provide safety advisories, and respond to incidents swiftly.

CSP Giwa is described as a seasoned police officer with considerable experience in public relations and strategic communication. His selection for the role is expected to further strengthen the Nigeria Police Force’s online presence and improve interaction with citizens, journalists, and other stakeholders.

Security analysts say the position of Force New Media Officer has become increasingly important as Nigerians rely heavily on digital platforms for news and public information. Effective management of these platforms is seen as vital for combating misinformation and promoting accurate reporting on security matters.

With his appointment, CSP Ali Giwa is expected to lead efforts aimed at building a more responsive and transparent digital communication system within the Nigeria Police Force, while fostering stronger engagement with the Nigerian public in the digital space.
