EL RUFAI ALLEGEDLY RE-ARRESTED AFTER BAIL

EL RUFAI ALLEGEDLY RE-ARRESTED AFTER BAIL. Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has allegedly been re-arrested shortly after securing bail in an ongoing legal battle involving corruption and cybercrime-related allegations.

Reports say El-Rufai was initially released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being granted administrative bail. However, moments after leaving the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, operatives from another security agency reportedly took him into custody again.

The renewed arrest is reportedly linked to allegations surrounding the unlawful interception of phone communications involving Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. Security agencies are also said to be investigating separate corruption allegations tied to El-Rufai’s time as governor of Kaduna State.

While some reports identified the Department of State Services (DSS) as the agency behind the arrest, others stated that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) later confirmed he was in its custody for ongoing investigations.

The development has sparked reactions across Nigeria’s political space, with supporters describing the situation as political persecution, while critics insist the former governor should face due legal process like every other citizen.
