Kogi High Court Denies Ordering NDC Deregistration

The Kogi State High Court has dismissed reports claiming it ordered the deregistration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the allegation as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the court’s Chief Information Officer, Saqeeb Saeed, the judiciary said it had never heard any case relating to the registration or deregistration of the NDC or any other political party.

“The High Court of Justice of Kogi State did not handle any matter relating to the registration or deregistration of any political party in the country, and particularly the party in question, nor any other matter concerning the political party,” the statement said.

The court also condemned the use of the photograph of the Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Josiah Joe Majebi, alongside former Governor Yahaya Bello in the viral post, saying it appeared intended to falsely suggest the judiciary was responsible for the alleged decision.

It urged the public to ignore the report and warned against spreading unverified information capable of misleading the public or undermining confidence in the judiciary, reaffirming its commitment to impartial justice.

The clarification comes after a Federal High Court in Lokoja last month set aside its earlier judgment directing INEC to register the NDC, citing procedural defects. The party has appealed the ruling and insists it remains a legally recognised political party pending the outcome of the appeal.
