A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties over alleged failure to meet constitutional requirements for continued registration.
The judgment, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu on Monday, followed a suit filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators, which challenged the continued recognition of the affected political parties.
The court directed INEC to remove the ADC, Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party (AP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) from the register of political parties.
Justice Lifu held that the parties failed to satisfy the constitutional conditions required to maintain their status as registered political parties, relying on the provisions of Section 225A of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
