Uber Exits Nigeria After 12 Years Of Operations
Global ride-hailing company Uber has discontinued its operations in Nigeria, effective Wednesday, September 2, 2026, ending its 12-year presence in the country.
The company announced the decision in a message to users, saying it followed a review of its business priorities and investment focus across Africa.
“After a thorough review of our business, we have made the tough decision to wind down our operations in Nigeria, effective 2 September 2026,” Uber said.
Uber, which launched in Lagos in 2014 before expanding to other Nigerian cities, said the decision is limited to Nigeria and Uganda and does not affect its operations elsewhere in Africa.
The company also clarified that its departure from Nigeria is not connected to the recent Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria directive affecting e-hailing operations at Nigerian airports.
Uber said its Help Centre would remain available until September 23, 2026, to assist users with outstanding account-related enquiries.
The exit marks a significant development in Nigeria’s competitive ride-hailing market, where Uber has operated alongside platforms including Bolt and inDrive.
