Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has confirmed that his highly anticipated clash with fellow Briton Anthony Joshua will be staged at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Although no exact date has been announced, the Joshua-Fury bout is expected to take place in November after both fighters signed contracts with Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.
“What a place, what a venue, what a fight,” Fury said in a post on Instagram.
Fury described New York City as “the land of opportunity”, but some fans criticised the decision to stage the all-British contest in the United States rather than at a major UK venue such as Wembley Stadium.
Fury, who turned 38 in August, has recorded 36 professional victories, with his only defeats coming against Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk in two fights in 2024.
He announced his return to boxing in January after previously retiring in December 2024 following his second defeat by Usyk, in a bout contested for three of the four major world heavyweight titles.
Fury and Joshua had previously failed to agree terms for a fight in 2021, with the proposed showdown collapsing after a US judge ordered Fury to honour a trilogy bout with Deontay Wilder.
As part of his preparations for the Joshua fight, Fury stopped Polish opponent Mariusz Wach in a tune-up bout in July before about 1,500 spectators at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand.
