Spain Defeat Argentina to Win 2026 FIFA World Cup
Spain were crowned champions of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after edging defending champions Argentina 1-0 following extra time in a dramatic final on Sunday.
Substitute Ferran Torres proved to be the match-winner, netting the decisive goal in the second half of extra time to secure La Roja’s second FIFA World Cup title, 16 years after their historic triumph in South Africa in 2010.
Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez delivered several superb saves to keep his team in the game, but the South Americans suffered a major setback in second-half stoppage time when midfielder Enzo Fernández was sent off after picking up a second yellow card for a reckless challenge on Pau Cubarsí.
Playing with a one-man advantage, Spain controlled possession throughout extra time and eventually found the breakthrough as Nico Williams brilliantly teed up Torres, who calmly finished to score the only goal of the contest.
Luis de la Fuente’s men completed a remarkable tournament with yet another disciplined defensive performance, conceding only one goal in seven matches while blending defensive resilience with their trademark possession-based style of play.
Argentina, captained by Lionel Messi, showed tremendous determination throughout the competition, defeating Egypt in the knockout rounds before staging a comeback victory over England in the semi-finals.

Despite their spirited campaign, the reigning champions were unable to break down Spain, who lifted football’s most prestigious trophy for the first time since their 2010 success.
