Police Arrest 22-Year-Old Suspected Cultist in Anambra, Recover Firearms

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 22-year-old suspected cultist during a security operation in Anambra State, in what authorities described as a major breakthrough in the fight against criminal activities in the region.

According to a statement released by the Nigeria Police Force, the suspect was apprehended following credible intelligence linking him to a notorious cult group known for violent crimes, including armed robbery and intimidation of residents.

Police operatives reportedly carried out a coordinated raid in the early hours of the day, leading to the arrest of the suspect at a hideout. During the operation, officers recovered a cache of weapons, including firearms and ammunition believed to have been used for criminal activities.

The command noted that the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of cult-related violence and restore public confidence in security agencies. Residents have, in recent months, raised concerns over the activities of cult groups, particularly among young people.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. The police also stated that investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the group and uncover the full extent of their operations.

The Commissioner of Police in the state reassured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring safety, urging citizens to continue providing useful information that can aid security agencies in combating crime.

This latest development highlights intensified efforts by law enforcement to tackle insecurity and dismantle criminal networks across Nigeria.
