Tinubu, Buni, Geidam Meet in Aso Rock Over Yobe Security

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday held a high-level security meeting at the Aso Rock with Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni and former governor Ibrahim Geidam, as concerns mount over the security situation in the North-East state.

The closed-door meeting focused on recent developments in Yobe, particularly threats linked to insurgent activities and the need to reinforce security architecture across vulnerable communities. Sources within the presidency indicated that discussions centered on strengthening collaboration between federal security agencies and state authorities.

Governor Buni, who briefed the President on the current realities in Yobe, highlighted the need for increased surveillance, improved intelligence gathering, and rapid response mechanisms to counter emerging threats. He also emphasized the importance of sustained federal support in maintaining stability in the region.

Geidam, who has remained influential in the state’s political and security landscape, reportedly contributed insights based on his experience in managing similar challenges during his tenure as governor.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country, stressing that the federal government would not relent in tackling insecurity in the North-East. He assured the delegation of continued support, including the deployment of necessary resources and personnel to address the situation.

The meeting comes amid renewed concerns over sporadic attacks and security breaches in parts of Yobe and neighboring states, underscoring the urgency of coordinated action among stakeholders.

Observers say the engagement signals a proactive step by the presidency to directly address security challenges at the state level, as Nigeria continues its broader fight against insurgency and instability.
