NDC Says Obi’s Name Uploaded to INEC Portal Despite Court Ruling

NDC Appeals Deregistration as Obi Appears on INEC Portal

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded the name of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to its portal despite a Federal High Court judgment that nullified the party’s registration.

The ruling, delivered by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, set aside an earlier order directing INEC to register the party after the Peace Movement Party challenged the use of its logo and argued it was excluded from the original suit.

In a statement on Monday, the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, said the NDC has filed an appeal and an application for a stay of execution, both of which have been served on INEC. He insisted the party remains legally registered, noting that its primaries were monitored by the electoral commission.

Dickson said his name and that of Peter Obi have already been uploaded to the INEC portal, while the vice-presidential candidate’s details will be completed shortly. He urged members and aspirants not to panic, saying there is still sufficient time under the electoral timetable to submit the names of other candidates.

He also commended INEC for its professionalism and called on the commission to remain neutral throughout the process.

“Today, the NDC has filed an appeal against the ruling as well as a stay of execution/injunction, which has been served with a covering letter to the INEC chairman and his team to do what is right according to law and what is legally sensible,” Dickson said.

He added: “The Nigeria Democratic Congress has come to stay and remains a duly registered party in Nigeria which has participated in all the political processes so far. My name and that of the Presidential Candidate have been uploaded to the INEC portal, while that of the Vice Presidential Candidate will be done tomorrow upon completion of the deposition.”
